Getting connected…

This morning I read a great post on connections over content by @jackiegerstein. I loved the focus and believe this is going to be a huge part of life at Hobsonville Point Secondary School. As a Learning Team Leader with a focus on the learning hubs, this will be imperative to the success of our school vision and values. See more info in the blog post here…

As a school community who wish to have the vision and values, lived and breathed by all, we are modelling this in our own focus on getting to know each other and making connections. We have already had our intros which really showed individuals connections and influences in their lives… Today we took part in a great activity, where we watched a provocation and trigger piece on Billy Elliot and then from here had time to make a sculpture that was representative of us in our zone. All the sculptures were quite different in terms of physical appearance, but also the meaning behind them. What a great way to learn more about each other. I would forsee an activity like this having an important part to play in finding out about students’ passions and zones as well.

Here are some visuals of what came out of the process, people talked about…passions, buzz, excitement, zoning out, balance, explosions and more….

I really look forward to having the kids here to get into activities like this, hands on, getting to know them and what makes them tick. Until then I am enjoying getting to know the crew more and making those connections stronger. I could also see this as being an interesting activity to bring in whanau and family to, so that we can all learn about each other, learning and zones.

We then dug deep about personalised learning and what that looks like with the circle process we completed with Julia Atkin…

Very excited to actually personalising in the very near future…
